"Work Spouse"

According to Wikipedia, ″Work spouse″ is a phrase, mostly in American English referring to a co-worker, usually of the opposite sex, with whom one shares a special relationship, having bonds similar to those of a marriage. A ″work spouse″ is also referred to as ″workplace spouse″. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

It's no surprise if  many people relate to the above definition of what a work spouse is. Most working adults spend the better part of their days at work. Developing friendships with the opposite sex at a work place could be healthy but in some cases these friendships inadvertently lead to something sexual. If my husband goes on about a female colleague, I would want to see her picture. If she is cute and his "spec" then Houston we have a problem. Not to say having a friend who is not his type could not be unhealthy.

Here are a few signs you have crossed the line of work friendships:

  1. Hiding aspects of your relationship from your spouse
  2. Meeting after work for socially rather than work situations
  3. Having more personal conversations instead of work related ones.Complaining about your spouse
  4. Sharing more time with the person than your spouse e.g, texting, phone call etc.
So are you crossing the line at work? It maybe time to check it fast and put an end to such relationships.
