Call me a lazy parent if you want but there are many times when tablets in the hands of my kids have allowed me the luxury of a mid-day weekend nap. So yes, I am excited about this new kid friendly YouTube app because my kids would love it. Right now the channel is blocked on their hand held devices but they have often asked permission to view some kid friendly channels.

As reported by Reuters, the free app from Google Inc's online video service will be available for download from Feb. 23 and will feature kid-friendly design, with big icons and minimal scrolling, according to details seen by Reuters. The app, which will be separate from the mainstream YouTube mobile app, will also feature parental controls such as a timer that can be used to limit a child's screen time.
