21-year-old Christen (Ninee) Dale of New York, tried teaching her 3-year-old nephew Ethan Ali how to spell. and when he failed in the spelling lesson, she began to torture the boy. According to police, Dale confessed that she punished the child numerous times before she beat him to death. Dale allegedly forced the boy to stand in the corner while holding two bottles in his outstretched arms for about 45 minutes.
On the fateful day, Dale told the boy that they were going to learn how to spell, but he refused to do so. She severely beat him with a belt. The child died in his aunt’s apartment in Brooklyn. His body was covered with buckle markings, prosecutors said.
An autopsy showed that he “suffered extensive bruising on his torso, back, behind, thighs, arms and scalp,” according to court records. Dale is the sister of the boy’s mother, 27-year-old Natasha Ali, according to other family members.
Dale was caring for the child for a few months, after his parents separated. The boy’s mother works full time as a home attendant, and she is also taking evening classes. Dale is being held without bail on charges of murder and assault. She faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
